Spring Is In The Air

Spring is a wonderful time of year. It’s a time when flowers are blooming, trees are budding, birds
are singing, weddings are happening, ad babies are being born. It’s the time of year for spring
cleaning and organizing, too. And it’s the time of year when caterpillars turn to butterflies.
The metamorphosis of a caterpillar is an amazing transformation. One creature literally turns into
another. One is nothing like the other- the way it travels, the way it looks, what it eats, the way
it behaves- It’s all different.

The metamorphosis of a caterpillar reminds me very much of the transformation that God does in
us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if
anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have
become new.” When we accept Christ we are not just a person who has turned over a new leaf,
we are a totally new creature. We don’t look the same, we don’t behave the same, the way we
respond is different, and our appetites are different now, too

Just as the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly takes time, so does it take time for us to
totally transform into the disciple God longs for us to be. When we accept Christ, our spirit man is
totally transformed in a moment. We are translated from the kingdom of darkness into the
kingdom of the Son of His love. But our soulish realm, (that is our mind, our will, and our
emotions) and the body need to be brought into alignment with God’s word and with His will.
When the caterpillar wraps itself in it’s chrysalis, there are certain things happening inside. It
literally digests itself, releasing enzymes to dissolve all of its tissues. Inside the chrysalis is now
this soupy substance that’s being transformed into a beautiful butterfly. Inside this soupy
substance is the DNA for its eyes, wings, and legs. Now that you are in Christ, you have His DNA
in you and you are being transformed day-by-day. The Bible that to follow Christ we must
deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him. Denying ourselves is part of the
transformation just like the self-digesting of the caterpillar. We must decrease so HE can increase

It says in 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you faithful, who also will do it.” It is also stated in His
word “that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
In other words, we are all in the process of being transformed into the image of Christ. This
transformation happens from the inside out. But it’s still a daily choice to walk in the
newness of life we have received through Jesus Christ. It’s easy to slip back into our old ways
when we’re not cooperating with the Holy Spirit’s work in us

In Colossians 3:9-10 it says, “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the wold man with
his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of
Him who created him.” Verse 12 goes on to say, “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and
beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one
another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ
forgave you, so you also must do.”

So how do we put on the new man, and how are we renewed in the knowledge of Him who
created us? How do we cooperate with the Holy Spirit in our transformation?
We have to cause our thinking, which is our belief system, to line up with His word. We need to
be washed by the water of the WORD. Daily Bible reading is the quickest and most effective way
to transform our min. When we read God’s word it causes our thinking to align with God’s
thinking. His will becomes our will

We cooperate with the Holy Spirit in our transformation by praying and communing with God
heart to heart every day. Spending quality time with God on a daily basis softens the heart to the
point you no longer have a desire to sin and your taste for the things of this world fades away in
the light of His glory.

Worshiping God personally and in a corporate setting at church is extremely important in our
metamorphosis. We as Christians need the fellowship of other believers. We need community
and accountability which can be found in the house of God amongst other believers. We need friends
and mentors to help us along in our journey with Christ. We need to be challenged in our walk as
we hear the word being preached week after week

And finally, let us also remember this- “Sharing in His death by our baptisms means that we were
co-buried and entombed with him, so that when the Father’s glory raised Christ from the dead, we
were also raised with him. We have been co-resurrected with him so that we could be empowered
to walk in the freshness of new life.” (Romans 6:4 The Passion Translation).

In Christ, YOU are resurrected with Jesus into newness of life. In Christ, YOU are a beautiful
butterfly released from your chrysalis. In Christ, YOU area a carrier of Jesus’ DNA. In Christ,
YOU are seated with Him in heavenly places!

Walk in Newness of Life,
